Describe the ways in which a particular ethnic group (other than any to which you consider yourself to be a member) has changed your hometown or another place where you have lived or visited. Identify the place. Identify the group and its defining characteristic(s). Provide specific examples of ways in which the group has changed the landscape or the character of life in the community or town.
Reflect on the changes you describe. In doing this, there are a number of questions that you might consider. Have these changes been sudden or gradual? Have they prompted other changes or triggered larger community reaction? Have the members of the group sought to integrate with the larger community or have they remained separate residentially and socially? What has been the group's larger impact on personality of the place? Has your own life been altered in any way, however small, by the presence of this group? Do you consider the influence of this group to be positive or negative? Why? Use several examples (1 - 2 pages, single-spaced).
