Assignment 3 - Weather and Watersheds

This assignment consists of two web modules on the MetEd website, courtesy of the Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorological Education and Training (COMET). All of the COMET modules are available free of charge, however, you must register on the website and provide your name and a valid email address. The module quiz at the end of each module is required for you to get a grade for this assignment (the results will be emailed to you automatically).

Once you register and obtain your login information, you can login and go to any of the available modules. For maximum benefit, the COMET modules require a current web browser (Firefox, Mozilla, IE) with the Flash player plugin version 8 or better (some issues have been reported with recent versions). That said, the newer modules have text and printable versions as well, but they don't have all the features such as audio, etc.

The assignments can be done from anywhere, as long as you meet the above requirements and have access to a decent Internet connection (and perhaps headphones if you're in a public place and want full audio enabled). Each module should take about an hour and a half to complete, so don't wait until the day before the assignment is due to get started...

You will need to complete the following 2 (two) modules in order to complete the assignment:

The two modules together provide an overview of the evolution of our modern urban environment with a focus on impacts on the urban watershed, air quality, and climate.

Start early and take your time; you can do parts of each module in separate sessions and come back multiple times, and then take the module quiz when you're ready. You have three weeks to complete the entire assignment, ie, complete each of the modules above and take the module quiz. Remember you can always ask me questions if you need help, as well as the staff of the ARC, etc.

Note: If the main module page loads, but the links to the module sections don't seem to work, then make sure your browser isn't blocking all popup windows (which seems to be the default these days). I had to set Mozilla to allow popup windows from the MetEd URL (http://meted.ucar.edu) in the Security Preferences. See the Tech Notes page for more information.
